The guest blog series continues with one from singer/songwriter Ashley E. Norton, who was the guest way back on Episode 6 of “Now Hear This Entertainment.”  She is half of the duo called Whitherward.  Although she’d written the blog below approximately a year-and-a-half ago, it’s still relevant and helpful.  There is always a lot of talk – both on NHTE and in general – about people who move to Nashville with the hope of jump starting their music career.  Ashley’s blog brings first-hand perspective to such an endeavor.

People move on.  And I've moved to Colorado.  Why?  Well, the wind was blowing and I had to go.  My last four years in Nashville has been the best music University I never could have paid for.  I moved there to become a better songwriter, a better singer, and meet some amazing people.  Check, check, check.  There was negative and a lot of positive.  I got everything I could have asked for out of the city, including life long friends, and now it's time to apply this out in the real world!  It really does sound like college, doesn't it?

Ashley E. NortonSo I find it quite shocking that some people are taking this as a step away from my music.  Ah, but it's quite the opposite!  As most of you know, my main focus lately has been with my indie folk duo, Whitherward.  We have been on three major tours in a short year, and we noticed that we made more bookings, more fans, and more money out West.  Colorado's music scene is starting to boom, so really, the decision was easy!  We want to be here when it explodes.  Nashville was becoming too over-saturated to perform for people who aren't musicians themselves "trying to make it" (whatever that means).  To those of you who actually came to our shows to enjoy them, we appreciate you more than you know.

While we sit here in the snow patiently waiting for the glorious mountain summer, we are playing anywhere and everywhere we can, and focusing on our online presence.  We have two new video series that we are launching on patreon.com/whitherward.  It's just $1 a video, a small amount to keep us going!  And our social media seems to be growing.  We have finished tracking our sophomore EP, "Music Monster," and should be announcing its release sometime next month.

Thank you for EVERYTHING...you know who you are.

Keep up with Ashley and Whitherward via their website and their Facebook page.  And, go here to see the first guest blog we published last week!
