Mike Delguidice on stage with Billy JoelYesterday morning many children woke up to presents that, when unwrapped, sent them soaring on the proverbial “cloud nine.”  Perhaps one gift in particular was THE item on their Christmas list that was, for them, the crown jewel.  And on that note, some girls might have received an engagement ring from their Prince Charming, feeling like a Disney princess, that their wish had come true via their dream boyfriend (now fiancé).

Think of the Mark Wahlberg movie, “Ted,” and how – just as a shooting star passed overhead – young Johnny had made a wish that the stuffed bear he got for Christmas “could really talk.”

Fantasy or reality, some of the above is up for debate.  But what can’t be denied is that dreams do come true.

You read this blog each week and you listen to “Now Hear This Entertainment” each week because you have your own dream.  Music, you know, isn’t something you do as a hobby.  You have a vision that’s clear in your head of having a successful, full-time career performing.  And there are stories out there that inspire you to chase this as a goal, not as a dream.

One needs look no further than the “current” episode of “Now Hear This Entertainment.”  To me, the timing couldn’t be coincidental that milestone Episode 150 – and the guest featured on it – happened to fall just in time for the holiday weekend.  Mike Delguidice has a feel-good story that’s perfect for this time of year; Long Island musician fronting a Billy Joel cover band while also writing and recording his own original music, who lands a dream job of touring with “the piano man” himself, as a guitarist and background vocalist.  It’s something that Mike himself didn’t ever even consider dreaming of.

“I didn’t see that as a path,” Delguidice says during NHTE Episode 150.  “The dream is, I’m a songwriter – wouldn’t it be great one day to maybe picture myself having my own career, opening up for Billy maybe?  Still no, I’m doing a tribute band.  What the hell could he possibly need me for? … I never would’ve imagined that I’d be in his band.”

Now, lo and behold, here is Delguidice, touring with Joel, and, still doing his own Big Shot tribute band shows.

During the NHTE interview he even alluded to Arnel Pineda, who took over for Steve Perry as the lead singer for Journey.  Everyone knows that story, about Pineda having been discovered on YouTube.

These are real life examples of dreams coming true.

Absorb these stories as inspiration and dream big.  Perhaps yours can be the breakout story of 2017.

Season’s greetings.
