Notable Guest Quotes

“Usually when I co-write it's typically me doing more of the top lining, the melody and lyrics… but every writing session is a collaboration.”

“I wanted to release something that wasn't just putting out a bunch of singles because I've been doing that for a long time. Not that that isn't a good strategy, but I just, I wanted to create a body of work.”

“Mixing, there's such an art to it, and it's something that takes experience to master… and it's really great to hear how it sounds before it's mixed and after because it really does change the whole feel of it.”

“I'm so thankful and grateful to be working with Peter (Mokran) because I get to experience really the song come to life because all of the elements of production and songwriting … they're all sort of the backbone of the song.”

“Something about the mixing and the technical audio side of it is just, it's the difference between a song
that sounds really good and a song that hits you in your heart.”

“The video… we asked Megan Thompson who has done a few of my videos before and she also did Billie Eilish's ‘Ocean Eyes’ video, which, I'm just so thankful that I have these people to work with because it's so crazy how experienced and talented they are.”

“It's just one of the songs where you can kind of dance around to it and scream the lyrics without thinking too hard and I don't usually write songs like that and so being able to perform it was just another vibe for me and for the audience.”

“With Kenny (Loggins)… we did a concert version of Footloose with him, and he did a documentary to it as well. It was just really, first of all, it was fun.”

“Even though I had written songs before and I had been in the studio, I'd pretty much just been doing musical theater in terms of performance and… I had done a few camera things and done a few acting things.”

“I would always come back to music and that is all attributed to growing up with it and I can't imagine life without it.”

“About two years ago actually I got laryngitis as well as two other secondary viruses and that lasted for two months and so for a while it almost locked out those notes and so I did have to train them back.”

“It can be a great production but if it doesn't reflect what the lyrics are saying or if it doesn't do the complete opposite of what the lyrics are saying to sort of make you confused, which is just another aspect of storytelling, I think it's kind of pointless if it doesn't do those things.”

“I feel like in today's world with the way that algorithms and numbers work and … social media is such a big thing now it can both give you validation and destroy you in one second and so I try not to look at the numbers even if they are good.”

“You can't really put expectations on some things that are monitored by computer algorithms.”

“Sometimes if I can't figure out what song I want to write I will sit down, think of a random subject, and try to write a poem or just a very long string of thought.”
