Notable Guest Quotes

“A process that I use a lot in songwriting is we'll have a mic, we’ll just kind of – usually it's one person sometimes two or three – but one person will kind of start doing melodies or words, whatever they're hearing in their head.”

“I grabbed the mic and just started singing the, I guess the hook of it… and my vocal is in that track. We ended up just keeping it because as they say the magic happens on that first take. So, we ended up keeping those vocals and I did a lot of processing on them, so it didn't really matter that it was with one of my cheap mics.”

“I didn't have any work lined up in in Los Angeles. I just felt like I was hitting a brick wall of some sort and I just felt like I just needed to leave for a bit and if it didn't work out, I could just come back. So, I figured why not give myself a shot at least. And so, I made the decision to go ahead and move out (to L.A.), which was, it was pretty rough for the first couple months. But I got very lucky and I ended up meeting someone who introduced me to the people who worked at Atlantic Records on their record label side.”

“When you're not just climbing up the ladder versus reaching out to the people next to you, you’ll get different results.”

“I did go to school for music business and audio production, but for whatever reason, I think because I started in such a rock heavy world where producers did everything and you don't hear about engineers being its own thing.”

“It's constantly changing every single session, even throughout the session, your needs in the chair are gonna change and I think as time goes on you get better at kind of anticipating what someone's gonna want, which makes your job easier. And it makes them happy too when they don't have to say everything that they're thinking.”

“We have to move at the speed of creativity.”

“The whole reason I even started this musical journey was to be in a band and over the years it shifted, which is fine. I think sometimes you have to do that.”

“This industry will chew you up and spit you out and it will test you in ways that you never could have imagined.”

“When I'm approaching different genres, I think that talking period before you even begin is pretty important to figure out, what are they trying – what is this artist or writer, whoever, what are they trying to achieve? What are we trying to achieve, I should say.”

“There's a lot of us out there doing it, but I wouldn't be discouraged about it because everyone has their own taste, and music is subjective, so, what might not be cool to you could be the coolest thing to someone else.”
