A four-piece rock band from Kentucky that includes two brothers and a cousin. Their latest album was produced by a multi-platinum producer who has also produced for the likes of Sheryl Crow and Tom Petty. Frontier has shared the stage with the likes of Montgomery Gentry, Restless Heart, and Kevin Richardson & Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys. Frontier was also selected to play on the Avid stage at the 2019 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, where this episode was recorded. The band has released two albums and is hoping to get in the studio and record some new music soon.
(Ethan) "Occasionally, that just happens to a songwriter. You sit down, you have a guitar or some instrument in your hand and words just come out and a rhythm is set up and there you go."
(Jon) "My advice to other people is to take everything that is offered to you, unless it goes against your morals."
(Caleb) "It's one thing to play a show for people that are fans of music, and it's another to play a show for exclusively musicians. It's a very different kind of ball game."
(Andrew) "We're trying to get (to Nashville) more often because there's a lot of opportunity here. But we also know that there are people flipping burgers in Nashville that are some of the most incredibly talented people in the world. So, it's hard to know if it's best to come here where everybody's flocking to look for the opportunities or kind of stay where we are. So, we're trying to kind of split between two worlds."
(Andrew) "All those early merch sales that people were so kind to do financed our first album."
(Caleb) "What you should always be doing is just keep ears wide open. I think sometimes, like, especially when you're playing the same music over and over and over again you kind of get in the pattern of playing that music the way that you play it. And it can be hard to follow new ideas or break out of a mold, 'cause it's just in the muscle memory."
(Ethan) "A lot of our shows each year are festivals, which are outdoors. And, we really like those; it's a great way to not only travel for us, but to get to meet a lot of people in one place that love what we do. And so it's a great environment for us as musicians to reach out with lots of people at a time."
(Andrew) "There are a couple of songs that I honestly feel like I didn't really write because they just came to me so quickly and I literally put no thought into them. That sounds bad but it's just true."
(Ethan) "That's really kind of neat to be a band and each new year have more and more people come back and say, 'Hey, we heard you at this event. We would love for you to come visit our town.' Or, 'We loved you last year. Please come back.' And that's a wonderful feeling for a musician."
