As a result of my being such a tireless, devoted, energetic, enthusiastic entrepreneur, it saddens me that people that can be excelling during the coronavirus pandemic are doing the opposite. The attitude of, “Oh well, I guess there’s nothing to do but wait this out” will only result in being left at the side of the road while the vehicles driven by us creatives race past.
So much of getting through this unique experience is mental. The mindset you choose will determine how things turn out – or don’t turn out – for you on the other side of this. It is, in fact, all about attitude.
You can’t find anything to work on? I’m confused by that because I’m embracing this time to do even more than before!
Use this list – and feel my vibe – to get reinvigorated and tackle something new. Those ideas you’ve always had that were only that – big plans, rainy day thoughts? The time has arrived for you to execute.
1) I’m continuing my normal course of work, serving my clients, putting out a new episode of the “Now Hear This Entertainment” podcast every Wednesday, publishing a new blog every Monday, keeping all the balls in the air.
2) Since I am a national speaker and have several recurring topics, using the equipment I already had on-hand I have begun creating videos so that more people can be exposed to my content regardless of their location, meaning, from the comfort of their home or office (not limited to being at an event where I’m speaking). I am about to start uploading these courses and can foresee doing more.
3) I have also identified two (if not three) online destinations where I intend to also start publishing the weekly blog instead of just here.
4) Last Wednesday night I hosted a one-hour Instagram Live, featuring six past guests from the “Now Hear This Entertainment” podcast. I’ve booked 18 others to perform over the course of this and the next two Wednesday nights as well on the @NowHearThisEntertainment Instagram account.
5) I made lemonade when life gave me (and the rest of us) lemons and (1) spoke to a college class thanks to video conferencing AND not only did I use that same technology to (2) do two different presentations to the Las Vegas Writers Conference this past weekend (pictured above), but, (3) an additional invitation has been extended for me to present in a very active online group. (Of course, I accepted the invitation.)
6) To complement the gear alluded to in #2 above, I also invested in a Softbox Lighting Kit and am working on a video sample to send for an opportunity I was approached about. Plus, I’m using that to start laying the groundwork towards new exposure on YouTube.
7) I have armed myself with a newly acquired list of a huge number of online destinations for my eBook series.
8) This one relates to someone else, but, I even saw a past podcast guest of mine offering to teach (via video conferencing) how to play bass – on a “pay-what-you-can” basis. He’s giving back, but also keeping himself active (meaning, staying visible, and, not sitting around).
Heck, while, granted, it was reactive and not proactive, I even seized an opportunity for a proposal request sent in by a prospective author client who made contact to inquire about publicist services from Now Hear This. The point being that business is still happening and can continue to do so.
Notice that in the above list I did not reinvent the wheel.
What is on your “someday I’ll get around to it” list? What have you always said you’d love to do if you ever got the time? Now you have the time. Take action. Loaf around no more.
In the words of Rob Schneider from the 1998 Adam Sandler movie, “The Waterboy,” (say it with me) “You can do it.”
