Stanley Cup Playoffs logoLast October I wrote a blog about how my four Ps approach had twice paid off in recent events back then.  You can go read that one after you finish this week’s installment, but, my makeup in that approach is being patient, polite, professional, yet persistent, and it – I feel – does lead to desired results.  The patience and the persistence, as you’re about to read, continue to show benefits.

You might feel that close to five full months into 2018, you’re not hitting the targets you set at the beginning of the year.  Heck, you might be five years into your career and feel discouraged.  What you’re about to read will give you hope and a rallying point to turn things around and remain optimistic.

Tonight the Tampa Bay Lightning will look to close out their playoff series against the Washington Capitals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.  This after having lost the first two games in this best-of-seven conference final.  At that point, many “I told you so” and “Here we go again” cries could be heard from the naysayers, the moaners, the pessimists.  But the players believed in themselves and the team has now won three straight, keeping their eyes on the target.

Ignore those who are trying to discourage you and stay focused.  Believe that it can happen.  That’s what Brandon Mann has done.

A pitcher who was drafted by the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002, he spent 17 seasons in the minor leagues, in Japan, and even in independent leagues before finally making his debut in Major League Baseball a week ago for the Texas Rangers.  Along the way he had been a part of four other MLB teams’ organizations (besides Tampa Bay and Texas).

But I know, those are pro sports scenarios and you are an indie musician who thinks that the dues you pay don’t ever bring the desired result.  And you would be wrong.

I met singer/songwriter Ashley E. Norton maybe seven years ago in Nashville and brought her on as the guest on “Now Hear This Entertainment” for Episode 6 back in 2014.  She had just been signed to a label, which meant that her hard work had paid off, right?  Well, sort of.  It never turned into anything, as she described 160 NHTE episodes later in January 2017 as a member of the duo Whitherward.  Not letting it get her down, it was a 'look forward, don’t look back' mindset – and yes, more persistence – that resulted in an announcement within the last week that Whitherward is partnering with Subaru Europe for their “Songs From a Subaru Europe Tour.”  Where I come from, that’s a win.

There’s a similar success story to celebrate with Britta and Brooke Dodgen, who on NHTE Episode 25 were The Redheads.  Now called Rhythm Rampage, the girls announced ten days ago that they are going to have a song on country radio!  They’ve been signed to a radio release and their song will hit over one thousand country radio stations in the U.S. and also hit international country radio stations.

Success in the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Pitching in the major leagues.  Partnering with a major automaker.  Getting your song played nationwide on country radio.  Real life developments happening around you right now.  David Letterman used to say, “These are actual letters from actual viewers.”  What success will come from your patience and persistence that someone can right about?
