An original member of the popular band Pablo Cruise, which sold several million albums and still continues touring today. A singer, songwriter, guitar player, Dave Jenkins has also performed with Southern Pacific and, more recently, with the American Classic Hit Makers. He has recorded with many music industry greats, such as Jefferson Starship, Huey Lewis, and The Doobie Brothers, to name just a few.
"I remember a time when we were in a room with a couple of the record company suits, ya' know, the execs, and... I remember definitely saying, 'Whatcha Gonna Do is the one you need to go with. That song has all the earmarks of a hit record to me.' And I think they went with something else first... And I said, 'Well, Whatcha Gonna Do is gonna be the one, you'll see' and they released it and it turned into our highest charting hit."
"Since going to Nashville I've met a lot of musicians there and all of them - all the musicians that I've bumped into over the years - really appreciated Pablo Cruise because of the musicianship in that band. And that, to me, is a real neat thing, that great players have always appreciated those songs and the playing within them."
"I think you gotta be putting your best effort forward every time. It's just unbelievable how much competition there is these days to get over with a song. I wouldn't want to be starting out today. It's a different world than from what I started in."
"This band right now, it could be the best Pablo Cruise we've ever had."
"Everybody in the audience has got their iPhones up and it's like, I don't understand that because when I go to a concert the last thing I want to do is stand there and look through a three-inch screen at what's going on. I want to be in the moment and just listen to the concert and watch it."
"There's a lot of people that video what you're doing. So, with that in mind, you better be good, because it's going to end up on YouTube... So, if you're making any mistakes on your performance, people are going to see it."
"I think it's really a great thing to learn all these engineering aspects, ya' know, Pro Tools, all that stuff."
"Shredding (on guitar) is just such a small part of what can be had and I think songwriting and also singing - you up your value so much if you can sing."
"It just seems like you can write a great song but it's going to get taken away from you before it has a chance to make any money."
