“Recording is so fun and I’m lucky to have the team that I do. I feel so comfortable and that’s really important for the creative process, to be comfortable with the people that you’re working with.”
“Lyrics are always so important, but if you’re writing, like, a really cool, catchy, upbeat, pop record, it’s always good to have some cool melodies that people will catch on to. But if there are deeper lyrics, with a deeper meaning, you could keep the melody simpler and more beautiful.”
“I think whether you’re signed to a major label, or not signed at all, or signed to an independent label like me, you always, always have to work for yourself. I say that nobody’s going to come to your door… asking for you.”
“This is the hardest industry ever, so, you really have to work and be strong.”
(being on “American Idol”) “I really learned a lot about the business and the behind the scenes and just about myself!”
“I remember just crying and crying for days and days and days because you’re just living the dream and all of a sudden in two seconds it’s taken away from you, because, you have to remember, this is a reality TV show.”
(looking back on “American Idol”) “I loved it so much (but) I would never do it again.”
“Growing up I dealt with a lot of bullying, and a lot especially being on a national television show when I was a teenager.”
“I just want it to be known that no matter what happens in life – there are many obstacles, but – you can persevere and stay strong and go after what you love, just really be focused and humbled and be you. I want everyone to know that it’s okay to be you.”
