Today, we live in a world that’s heavily engaged in discerning what comes across on social media as genuine versus manufactured. We are constantly exposed to millions of marketing messages flooding through our TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and you guessed it, YouTube. Whether it’s a business, podcast, or a creator platform promoting a product, audiences have become so equipped to spot when something comes across as performative. It makes it extremely important nowadays to make sure you resonate on a deeper level with your audience.
How do you do that?
Well, the first thing to remember is that transparency breeds reliability. When a brand of any kind communicates openly about their experiences, values, successes, and even failures, it creates a space of trust that this generation seems to latch onto, much like the grip our phones have on us. To know a product, company, or person is to know the story behind it. That is the initial spark that builds the connection further, hooking individuals to keep coming back to see “what’s new.”

Think of your favorite brand that you have stayed loyal to for months or even years. It’s probably one you believe in so heavily, relating to everything they stand for. Whether you realize it or not, you were drawn to the brand because you trust what they are telling you and selling you. They reflected an honesty and consistency that you respect. A long-lasting relationship with anything starts with trust. You can rely on them. You know that through the efforts they make, you can count on them.
Humans naturally crave connections. It’s no surprise that when authenticity is sensed, we feel inclined to reciprocate. In a generation that is immersed in a small digital world, we appreciate when we come across individuals who we can emotionally connect with. That emotional tie sees beyond the logo, product, or social media account. It makes us feel and see something as real. Anyone can create a product and make up millions of strategies for high success, but without authenticity, you risk losing audiences that are loyal.
You want your brand to flourish?
You need loyalty to create those long-lasting relationships where people feel seen. A good product is only a small fraction of a thriving platform. You need to have a message, one that can connect individuals not only with you, but with each other. Individuals want to know how your product and platform are going to help both themselves and the communities around them. When someone believes in your message, it becomes more than belief in just the item; it’s loyalty to the values you stand firm on and promote. These communities of people are more likely to engage in the long-term.
Humans crave not only connections, but they also desire a purpose. When purpose reveals itself, the determination and drive to show up for it stays. When your platform conveys a clear mission, people feel it, see it, and are drawn to it naturally. To let an audience know your goals and feel your honesty, action needs to be in place always. This is what proves you to be reliable. When your actions are consistently aligning with your promises, and people see physical proof of follow-through, your audience credibility increases. This is what builds that natural growth over time.
One of the most important parts of taking action comes from the bravery to fail. The ability to take accountability for a mistake that was made, letting your audience know what will be done moving forward to correct an error. That is what makes people build respect for you and what you are promoting. I know personally, when I see a brand that I love make an error, I don't jump to the conclusion of never supporting or buying from them again. I wait to see what action is taken next. I can respect when there is genuine honesty in openly apologizing to the public and handling something with grace.

In my experience, audiences respond more when they feel a real human is speaking to them, not a brand script. Especially with the fast progression of AI platforms, people are finding it easier nowadays to plug in someone's text, email, or prompt into AI. They copy and paste sentences and send it off without any clue as to what “they” responded. What is supposed to be an emotional response comes across as robotic, with little to no empathy.
The cost of inauthentic messaging creates a reluctance to trust. When you can’t identify what intentions a business or platform has, you look for that trust elsewhere. People brush past something that doesn’t catch their attention, especially in the age where we can access a quick dopamine hit from a quick scroll. When something is “too good to be true,” people hesitate. Vulnerability is what breaks that wall. Authentic messaging isn’t just a concept. It's reflected in the everyday actions a person, business, or platform takes. It can be shown in behind-the-scenes moments, sharing real human experiences, or speaking about challenges faced, not only highlighting success stories.
So remember, when they talk in the TikTok world about posting three times a day to build momentum, and you dream of getting that one viral video that’s going to make you an overnight success, this can’t be a one-post or one day play. You’re playing the long game. You are building long-term relationships. You are building community.
