Since I don’t have a huge office with a massive roster of employees running around making all the magic happen, it’s hard to believe that last night marked just two weeks since I’d returned from the Florida panhandle and the 12th Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival, yet already one episode of “Now Hear This Entertainment” recorded there has been released, another has been edited and is ready to drop the day after tomorrow, AND a recap video has been published on YouTube.
In the case of the latter, one might glance at it and say, “Big deal. It’s less than five minutes long. Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back.” But then, you would have missed so, so much.
Let’s dig into it to learn lessons about how much you can accomplish with just one such creation.

I should note first that the following list is in no particular order.
First of all, since we are ALL so crazy busy these days and tend to just churn through all these events one after another, it’s nice to be able to document them just for our own sake! Some might think of it as an “Oh, yeah, wow,” reminder, but it’s okay to look at it and take pride in everything you’re able to get done at a festival, a conference, a tradeshow, or some similar event.
Second is, you’ll see that I got one of my clients booked to perform at this year’s edition of the songwriters festival and used the opportunity of this video to point that out, (a) to highlight her just a bit, but (b) just to remind people, “This is what Now Hear This does.” I don’t beat people over the head with it on the podcast or even in this weekly blog, so it’s helpful to do something like that, noting that it was quite subtle in the way it was presented in the context of the video. Plus, of course, what client is going to be upset that they got some extra promo?
Thirdly, there are four different podcast guests shown during the video. This is a good way to continue to build relationships with new people you’re meeting. They’ll appreciate the inclusion in such a project, and who knows, they just might push out a link to the video on their social media (or in their newsletter, or both).
Next is, the episode numbers and dates of the podcast interviews are shown in there so that people can either be on the lookout for them in the leadup to them or go back and listen to what they missed if they’re viewing the video after those NHTE episodes have already come out.
Fifth, it’s something that the festival itself will appreciate and, as a result, want to continue having Now Hear This as a part of. And yes, they too might push out a link to the video through their social media channels.
Sixth is that there are just going to be general curiosity seekers who wonder, “What exactly is it that Bruce and/or Now Hear This does,” and, while just a minor snapshot – and appetizer, if you will – this presents a nice visual representation that hopefully gets them to make contact with those magic words, “Tell me more.”
Next, lucky number seven on the list, is that it DOES provide something new for the YouTube channel, which is important to create for. And then once someone is on there, the hope, obviously, is that maybe it will lead to watching another video on there (or, again, making contact).
And last, here’s a pro tip, whether you want to count this as number eight or not. When you’re at an event that is NOT going to have tons and tons and tons of videos being published from it, if you’re one of the only ones doing so, your video is going to stand a much bigger chance of being found and watched when someone uses YouTube as the platform to search on for content from said event. ((wink))
